IT ALL ENDS! What an apt caption for the movie. The franchise that started ten years ago comes to an end after eight mindblowing films. It is a bitter-sweet moment for all of Harry’s fans, a moment which was not totally unexpected. The movie lives up to all the hype and expectations that it has been creating.
The last time we left Harry and his friends, Harry had destroyed three of the seven Horcruxes after having lost his mentor Dumbledore. Harry and his friends are at a crossroads, not knowing how to proceed. Now the saga continues with Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) desperately searching out and destroying the remaining Horcruxes needed to vanquish the nefarious Lord Vodemort (Ralph Fiennes), who is mounting his final assault. The locations of the evil objects include the Goblin Bank, Hogwarts and the strangest place of all – inside a living person.
The Gringotts break-in scene and the Dragon’s escape have been filmed wonderfully. The rapidly increasing pace and impending clash with Voldemort brings to the fore the urgency and ups the tension in viewers. The film has been made with absolutely no frills; it has focussed squarely on Harry’s quest; the climactic battle sequence at Hogwarts is stupendous in scope and spectacularly made, with the special effects playing a major role.
The cast is excellent as usual. Severus Snape (Alan Rickman) gets a chance to showcase a wide range of emotions other than his usual stony faced grimness, and Rickman comes out with flying colours. Neville Longbottom (Matthew Lewis) gets his due too, having been given an extended heroic role in the film’s final hour.
Though the climax is bound to be known by almost every one of Harry’s fans, the way it is brought out on screen is spellbinding (no pun intended)! The final battle sees many lives being lost, but director David Yates has ensured that all of them are not shown except for one or two deaths – perhaps for fear of upsetting younger fans. Instead, the bodies of the dead are shown long after the war is over.
The fact that not enough time was given to each character to make their final bow from the series is a bit sad, given that most of us have grown up seeing each of the characters evolve into who they are now.
This intriguing finale provides more than enough excitement for diehard fans of Harry. Harry Potter’s bittersweet goodbye may fly past a little faster than expected, but rest assured that there is not a single dull moment. Head over to the theatres, to watch Harry Potter and his friends’ epic battle against evil in all its glory, on the big screen.
In a universe as vast as it is mysterious, a small but powerful force has existed for centuries. Protectors of peace and justice, they are called the Green Lantern Corps. A brotherhood of warriors sworn to keep intergalactic order, each Green Lantern wears a ring that grants him superpowers. But when a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the Universe, their fate and the fate of Earth lie in the hands of their newest recruit, the first human ever selected: Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds). Hal is a gifted and cocky test pilot, but the Green Lanterns have little respect for humans, who have never harnessed the infinite powers of the ring before.
However, the ring has chosen Hal, and the fate of the universe lies in his hands. Watch the movie to see if Hal can fit in amongst the Green Lantern Corps, understand his newly found powers and responsibilities, and save the universe along the way.
